DIXMONT — One man died Thursday when his pickup truck crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a dump truck on Route 9 in Dixmont.
Jeffrey Goodwin, 50, of Frankfort, died in the crash, which happened shortly after noon on a straight stretch of road near the Newburgh/Dixmont town line. Chief Deputy Troy Morton of the Penobscot County Sheriffs Department said a witness told police that the pickup truck veered unexpectedly into the oncoming lane and that the dump truck’s driver, Michael Burrill, 55, of Garland, could not avoid a collision.
Both vehicles ended up off the road, which was littered with debris and gravel from the dump truck.
